Battle to the death in the tower tomb!
sixth session

One more very deadly battle with lizard creatures within the lower levels of the broken tower and the band of bloodied heros found what they’re looking for. Three survivors, Milos and Alia the cart drivers, and Flaron the guard. Gathering the stolen cart supplies, Phostis detected magic within the ancient weapons and shield that are affixed to the crumbling statues. Several swings against the hard rocks and years of grit and earth broke free revealing steel!
Night passed somewhat uneventfully in the tower as the group slept. Alia falls for the charms of Marco durning the night and they warm each other till morning. Phostis studied the arcane emminations on the items they found till falling into slumber.
The morning sun rose on the tower by the time everyone was ready and recovered, hauling the cart baggage back to the broken cart. Phostis repaired the cart enough to move all the crates back to the caravan if everyone helped by pulling or pushing.
Nearing the caravan, Marko spotted two Gnolls and a pack of hyenas within, harassing Radi and the other merchants. After the gnolls left to the north, our hero’s catch up to the caravan. The gnolls are bounty hunters, after slaves that escaped from the Pit three days ago…

Out of the stove and into the fire!
Fifth session

After riding a full day away from the city in the belly of a cart, our heros crawl out into the cooling air of sunset. The caravan that smuggled them out rests for the night as the terms of thier escape is discussed with the leader of the traders, Radi. They are to go into the badlands nearby and search for a wagon, lost two days ago during a sandstorm. Givin water, supplies, and weapons, four figures walk off into the burning morning sun.
Finding the cart tracks seemed easy enough for them, following them was the difficult part. Two fierce battles with small reptilian huminoids and a bunch of angry chitinous creatures later, the shadow of a broken tower looms before them. This is where the tracks lead to…

fourth session

Sneaking through the city and fighting off patrols and bounty hunters, the group finally meets up with the Veiled Aliance. With thier help, our stalwart hero’s are smuggled out of the city, for a price.

After the crawl though the dark catacombs, deadly traps, and vigilent guards, the survivors emerge into the city during a sandstorm. Running out into the stinging wind, they soon find shelter within a small domicile….

The run to Freedom, or Doom!
second night

The battle is over. The frantic pace of living through it blurs the vision. A sound from far off like a sandstorm gathering strength is all that one hears. The muffle slowly becomes a roar as vision clarifies. People in the stands scream and the blood that coats the survivors starts to cool in the night air. Bodies, humanoid and demon both, lie in pools of gore in the dirt. Four have survived, but it seems, not for long. Half giant Shadow Guards move into position to throw their deadly spears to finish what the Core Demons could not.

The four survivors, Marko Jyhadi, Phostis Lorentis, Sar-Jall the Chain Fighter!, and The Warded Man see that even in winning, there is no escape from Templar law. Unless they flee into the darkness beyond the Death Gate! As the four run, spears slam into the ground all around them. Will they make it to the safety of the gate and will they be safe when they reach the darkness within?

first night

The story begins like most stories do in Athas, with dirt and blood and the flare of battle.

Within the great warded city walls of Nibenay lies a stone pit. This pit begins at ground level and descends fifty steep steps that ring the main arena in the middle. The lowest of these steps are only broken by square covered sitting areas for those of noble blood, wealthy merchant lords, or the powerful Templar Wives of the Shadow King, come to sit and watch the games that take place within the fighting sands twenty feet below. Dusk draws near and the games during the high sun are almost drawing to a close. People cheer and shout as gladiators fight within the center arena. Nobles and Merchants are still being escorted in as most with money are not here to witness the gladiatorial matches; they seek to witness what happens at nightfall. Tonight, like every sevenday, those who have received a sentence of death by the Templars will face their end within the dust of the arena.

Two large doors consisting of lacquered bones of fallen gladiators lashed together with black stained leather cord is one of the two exits on the arena floor. These are the doors of the dead. They are only opened during the dark hours of night. On the far side of the rectangular pit are the gates of the living, a ten foot tall and wide wood portcullis. This is where the gladiators and slaves emerge from to do battle. Past the gates are the holding pens where the gladiators lie in wait for their matches. Today, it is filled with slaves and prisoners waiting for the evening, passing their final hours on this land tethered together and tied to the stone loops in the wall. This is where our heroes wait, each with their own stories of how they ended up within the dimming light of the pit. Each waiting for what draws near, striving vainly to think of a way to get out of their imprisonment, but knowing it is far too late for a miracle, even if there were any gods left.
